Rascals, Ape Shit

The Rascals go in on a beat that must literally have been inspired by some really strong piff….  Now, normally, we endorse this (originality, NOT piff), and this track certainly has it. But sometimes originality comes at a cost.  In this case we felt that Rascals delivery far out-performs the potential of the instrumental.   Syncopated drums and a slightly whiney melody means that the track unfortunately lacks the punch.  We personally are really looking forward to the remixes, because the four East Londoners (a.k.a. Shizz, Tempz, Merkz and Kay Willz) all show glimpses of what must have inspired EMI to sign them.  The quartet deliver some creative changes in tempo and lyricism.  The video is pretty typical of the track and genre, with no ‘stand out’ features, but still gives you enough visual stimulation to enjoy the song.  ‘Ape Shit’ is the first track to be released from the forthcoming mixtape, The Launch Volume 2 (release: October 2012) and we’re looking forward to a steady rise for these guys.  A couple weeks ago they showed exactly what they’re capable of when presented with a mean beat, just ask Max (Choice FM) as they were guests on her weekend sessions show and tore it up with some awesome freestyles. We think the next single will be a real banger and Rascals will unleash a little more of what they’re holding back!
